A Level company - serving Lansdale, PA

Famco Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

How Famco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • VGM series pilot assembly failures. The standing pilot on VGM-36 and VGM-42 units tends to soot up when Lansdale’s hard water minerals calcify in the gas orifice. We pull the assembly, ultrasonic-clean the pilot body, and replace the thermopile if millivolt output drops below 325 mV. If the orifice is scaled past recovery, we source an OEM pilot from our Haven buying network rather than forcing a generic fit.
  • VGI insert blower motor bearing noise. The GFK-160A blower in VGI inserts runs at 3,000 RPM and the sleeve bearings dry out after roughly six seasons of Lansdale’s dry winter cycling. We don’t lubricate and hope; we replace with a sealed-ball-bearing aftermarket equivalent that matches OEM CFM and amp draw, documented in your photo record.
  • Firebox refractory panel cracking in VFB models. Famco’s refractory panels are 1.5-inch castable, but rapid thermal cycling from overfiring splits them at the bolt holes. We measure the crack width and depth with a camera and feeler gauge. Under 1/8 inch and stable, we seal with HeatShield refractory sealant. Through-cracked or displaced, we order factory-matched panels through our Olympia Chimney supply line.
  • VGK vent-free ODS (oxygen depletion sensor) nuisance shutdowns. The ODS on VGK-24 and VGK-30 units is sensitive to lint and dust accumulation, but in Lansdale’s older homes with forced-air heat, we also see shutdowns from negative pressure when bath fans or range hoods run simultaneously. We clean the ODS pilot, check room air volume against ANSI Z21.11.2 requirements, and tell you honestly if the unit is oversized for the space.
  • VGW wood-burning fireplace smoke chamber deterioration. The smoke chamber above the firebox in VGW-42 units is parged with a thin refractory slurry that flakes with repeated freeze-thaw if the chimney cap leaks. We camera-scan the chamber, measure parging loss with a depth gauge, and re-parge with Chamber-Tech 2000 or recommend a stainless liner if the corbeling is too extreme to meet the 1:12 slope rule in NFPA 211.

Our Famco Fireplace Services Process

Our Famco Fireplace Services Process
  1. 1
Call and schedule. A live person answers, checks our Famco parts stock for your model, and books a two-hour window. You get a text when your tech is en route.
  2. 2
Camera-scan inspection. We run a chimney camera per NFPA 211 Level 2 standards, regardless of whether the job is gas or wood. For Famco inserts, we also scope the vent connector and termination. The camera doesn’t guess. Neither do we.
  3. 3
Written price and scope. Before any tool touches your fireplace, you receive a written price, written scope, and written warranty. Clause 1 of the Haven Standard: have it in writing. No exceptions.
  4. 4
Parts decision. If your Famco part is available OEM through our Famco supply channel, we quote it. If lead time exceeds ten days and a quality aftermarket equivalent meets or exceeds OEM spec, we show you both options with the price difference.
  5. 5
Repair and test. We complete the work, run combustion analysis on gas units (CO, O2, draft pressure), or do a smoke-puff test on wood units. Readings go in your documented photo record.
  6. 6
Cleanup and documentation. We leave the work area as we found it. You get your photo record, written warranty, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise stamped on the invoice. Haven Standard Clause 4 requires the archive; we’ve done it since 2009.
